Notre-Dame d'Aleyrac

This pretty XII century chapel sits among vineyards near the village of Sauteyrargues. It was much restored in the XIX century with only the romanesque apse being original. The site has evidence of much earlier occupation with Roman remains having been found. The restoration has been well done and the setting is delightful. When I visited in the late summer there was a carpet of autumn crocus around the chapel.

There is a tree-lined shady area for picnicking. Click on the thumbnails to the left for more photos. The chapel is normally locked.
