St Martin des Œufs

This tiny chapel is hidden in the forest a short distance nort-west of Olargues. It has a very curious name, I would like to know its origin! The chapel is very well maintained being nicely painted and with fresh flowers when I visited. The keystone over the door indicates that the chapel was built in 1889. Many of the small isolated chapels in Hérault date from the mid 19th century. The building is a simple single room with a circular apse. The exterior is covered in crépi, a type of French stucco, under a lauze (stone-flag) roof. The decorated interior can be clearly seen through the grille of the green metal door.

The chapel is normally kept locked.
