St Eutrope

A steep climb leads from the bridge over the river Mare between Andabre and Castanet-le-Haut to the tiny chapel of St Eutrope. The origin of the chapel is unknown but, in its present state it was probably a hermitage. The present building dates from the XIVc and probably replaced a pre Roman building. Tradition says that St Eutrope preached at nearby Castanet-le-Haut and then retreated into the mountains to worship. There is a procession from the village to the chapel each year on 30 April. The views from the chapel are superb!

The chapel is open to the public. Take care on the steep and rocky climb.
