recording

Anyone can make records.  Two members within the Society collect records of species as Vice-county 24 (Bucks) Recorders.  These are for vascular plants and dragonflies and damselflies.  We also have members who will collate Bryophyte, Lepidoptera and Trichoptera records.

The minimum information which is required for the most useful record(s) to be made is:

WHO
The name of the person making the record.

WHAT
The name of the plant, animal or fungus being recorded.  The name should be as precise as possible, preferably in Latin, but English names which can only refer to one species are acceptable.

WHERE
The name of the location where the record was made, together with a six-figure grid reference where possible.

WHEN
The date on which the record was made.

Sometimes, it is possible and desirable to give other information – like number of individuals, sex of individual(s), stage in life history, how individual(s) was recognized.

Once records have been made they should be submitted to the appropriate Recorder for the group of organisms involved.

If you are unsure who to pass your records on to, please speak to a Committee member or contact us at info@mknhs.org.uk.
