Brief History

I have been interested in photography since I was eleven years old. My dad bought me a Kodak Box Brownie, which I still have. In my early teens I began to do my own processing and enlarging of B&W film. My next camera was a Kodak Brownie 44B. This camera used 127 film and had variable aperture and shutter speed.

I got my first 35mm camera, a Minolta A5 rangefinder camera, when I was 16. Although I still took a lot of B&W, I also started to use colour for the first time. I took colour slides (on Kodachrome 25). At this time I was very actively involved in my local photographic society (Clay Cross Camera Club) and had a few slides selected and shown in national exhibitions.

My first SLR (a Fujica ST705) came later, when I was in my twenties. At this time I had become very interested in natural history and wanted to take photos of plants and insects, so an SLR was needed.

The next step was to a system camera, an Olympus OM2-SP bought in 1980. I still use this camera today. I also have a second body (OM2-N).

Recently, I have moved over to digital photography. I was as sceptical as most photographers about the viability of digital photography until the Nikon Coolpix 990 came on the market. At last there was a camera that seemed to be able to do a decent job of taking photos and to give the user a deal of creative control. At the beginning of 2004, I treated myself to a Digital SLR, the Canon 300D. I am delighted with the camera and with the resulting photos. My interest in pfotography has received new impetus and I hope to publish many photos on these pages.
