Aeshna juncea - Common Hawker - L'Aeschne des joncs

Description

Widespread in Northern Europe, our location in Languedoc is near the southern edge of its range. The male has blue spots on a dark brown field the whole legth of the abdomen. In the female these spots are yellow. The leading edge of the wing (the costa) is yellow. Its preferred habitat is acidic ponds and lakes.
