Platycnemis latipes - "Ivory" White-legged Damselfly - L'Agrion blanchâtre

Description

This damselfly is very pale, ivory white with just a tinge of blue (males) or brown (females). It is less strongly marked with black than P. pennipes. It is found near slow-flowing streams and rivers.

Pair in wheel

Pair of Pale White-legged Damselflies in mating wheel (or heart) formation, 23/8/06, by River Orb at Cazouls-les-Béziers (34).

Observations

02/07/2004   Several dozen males and females found by the River Orb near Bédarieux, Hérault (34).

08/07/2004   3 males near Lac du Salagou, Hérault (34).

15/07/2006   Many (100-300) individuals, both male and female, some in tandem and some in wheel beside the River Orb between Hérépian and Bédarieux (34).

23/08/2006   A few dozen individuals, mostly males but including one pair in wheel, near the River Orb at Cazouls-les-Béziers.

10/07/2008   Solitary male at the Plan d'eau near Lunas

09/06/2009   10-30 in vegetation near the Barrage des Olivettes.

16/06/2009   10-30 including pairs in tandem at the River Orb at Hérépian.
